Feature Relative Strength

There are multiple ways to determine the strength of a security. Hence a way to measure how strong the price of an asset is growing. Such a strategy would be classified as a momentum strategy.

One method could be to compare the performance of a stock or other investment relative to the market as a whole, a sector or any other relevant benchmark. Another concept of relative strength according to Levy is based on the assumption that securities which exhibited a large relative strength in the past will also develop relatively strongly in future, and conversely. Here it is not the relative strengths of several instruments which are compared with each other, but the performance of the past with the performance of today.

We support both approaches in our platform. By going to the screener tap and select the strength filter, you can filter for assets of one or more watchlist and compare their strength with one or more sectors. The result will give you a list sorted by sector and strength so you can easily spot the best performing stocks in a particular sector. On the right hans side, you might want to adjust the parameters for your filter. If you go to the market tab and select a market, you will be presented with the statistics relevant for that market. The first chart will give you an over view of the past stock price momentum distribution. The table on the right side will give you a list of the top performing stocks according to the strategy described by Levy. In addition to the current position in the list you will also find last weeks position and an indication if the position has changed. By toggling the tab on the top, you can switch between the best and worst performing stocks. As Levy suggested, we are using a 27 week history for calculating the values.
